Events
Several seasonal wildlife walks, summer family activities and musical events take place each year. Please see local notices in Low Newton to find out what's coming up. |

Family highlights
A fantastic place for family adventures. Try to spy birds on the lagoon from the wildlife hide at Newton Pool. If you're lucky, you might catch sight of seals in the harbour. The wide smooth beaches are great for sand sculptures or a game of quick cricket. |

Walking
As well as the Northumberland Coast Path, there is an extensive network of walking routes to explore here. Take a map and try linking paths together to create your own favourite circuit.
A wide gravel path, suited to pushchairs and wheelchairs, leads from behind Low Newton Square and Embleton Dunes to an accessible wildlife-viewing hide at Newton Pool. |
| |
|
Cycling
Due to the sensitive nature of the sand dunes and coastal soils, cycling is only permitted on tarmac tracks and minor roads around Low Newton and Embleton Bay. |
| |
|
Canoeing and kayaking
A popular spot for sea-kayaking. Launching is very easy from Newton Haven, where you can drop off kit, but please then drive back up the hill to the car park. |
| |
|
Diving and snorkelling
Discover a fascinating underwater world off the coast around Embleton Bay. Newton Haven offers the easiest access, though you can walk in from any beach. Contact local dive centres in Seahouses or Amble for more information and tank-filling. |
| |
|
Fishing
A great setting for sea-fishing from the rocky headlands or beach-casting from the bays. |
| |
|
Golf
If you fancy a round of golf, the Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course offers 18 holes in a beautiful setting, as well as a warm welcome from the club house. |
| |
|
Horse riding
The firm sands of Embleton Bay are popular for horse-riding and bridlepaths cross the estate, though horse boxes may find it difficult to turn in car parks. Please contact local equestrian centres for more information. |
| |
|
Kite surfing
Enjoy kite surfing at Embleton and Beadnell Bays, though there are no-fly zones during the seabird breeding season. There is no flying at any time in Newton Haven to avoid disturbing feeding birds. |
| |
|
Sailing and boating
Small craft can be hand-launched from Newton Haven, but there is no vehicle access to the beach. The closest day-launching facility for larger craft is at Beadnell. The moorings are for mooring holders only. Visiting yachts should not use other buoys, but anchor safely at their own risk. |
| |
|
Surfing
Great surfing can be found at Embleton and Beadnell Bays, check local daily sea conditions to avoid days of poor swell. |
| |
|
Swimming
Good, if chilly, sea-swimming can be had from Newton Haven and Embleton Beach. No lifeguard supervision though, so parents must watch children closely. |
