About this property Winner of UKTV History 'Britain's Best' Historic House, Erddig is a house with a human face. Set within the grounds of a spectacular 485-hectare (1,200-acre) country park bordered by the River Clywedog, and overlooking a restored formal 18th-century walled garden with Victorian parterre, Yew Walk and National Collection of Ivies, Erddig is one of the most fascinating houses in Britain. Celebrating the tale of an unusually close relationship between the family of the house and their servants, the original 'upstairs, downstairs' story comes alive in a series of witty portraits with doggerel verses featuring the servants of the house going about their daily business within and around the striking collection of outbuildings including the kitchen, laundry, bakehouse, stables, sawmill, smithy and joiner's shop. The house itself presents a stunning example of state rooms with original 18th- and 19th-century furniture and furnishings, including exquisite Chinese wallpaper. There are also horse-drawn carriage rides, cycle hire, circular walks and many events throughout the year to enjoy.
