About this property The former home of Noel Goddard Terry of the famous York chocolate-making firm, the house was built in 1927 in the Arts & Crafts style and was designed by the firm of Brierley and Rutherford (it is now the Yorkshire office of the NT and not open to the public). The garden, designed by George Dillistone of Tunbridge Wells, complements the style of the house with formal yew-hedged garden rooms, a bowling green, tennis court and herbaceous borders, plus wilderness gardens. There are plants of interest for every season and this tranquil garden is an oasis for wildlife and home to one of the few British colonies of midwife toads.
