At Ickworth, we welcome our youngest visitors and offer bookable workshops designed especially with the Foundation curriculum in mind. Learning is made fun exploring the habitats of wild creatures and rambling through Ickworth’s ever-changing woodland, or exploring the rooms and staircases of the house.
Animals at Ickworth

- Craft activities - choose from clay animals, finger puppets or masks
- Storytelling - an animal story told with the help of finger puppets
A two hour workshop including a range of activities designed to appeal to children with different learning styles.
Woodland discovery rambles
Explore nature using your senses.
- Scavenger hunt - search for natural objects and make a group display
- Bark or leaf rubbings - investigate different textures or patterns
- Smelly cocktails - made form smells found in the woodland
- Nature cards - make a record of your journey from found objects
The rambles last an hour and a half, the walk is gentle and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
House and home
See what a house from the past looked like.
- Servants’ tour - explore the back stairs and servants’ areas of Ickworth
- Tour of state rooms - be amazed at the grand family rooms and bedroom
- Handling collection - get a chance to handle some objects and find out more about how they were used and who used them
The visit lasts approximately two hours. For smaller groups, the servant's tour and tour of state rooms would be combined.

Each workshop costs £2.50 per child, accompanying adults are free.
