Lindisfarne is an atmospheric and romantic fairytale castle dramatically perched high on a rocky island crag.
This Elizabethan fort, later converted into a beautiful Edwardian home by Sir Edwin Lutyens, is an alluring place and overlooks the charming village of Holy Island - a unique tidal island which is cut off from the mainland twice a day.

The barrel vaulted drawing room known as the ‘Ship Room’ because of the wooden model of a Dutch sailing ship suspended from the ceiling, is where most couples choose to hold their marriage or civil partnership ceremony.

When can civil wedding ceremonies be held at Lindisfarne Castle?
- During the Castle opening season (March – October each year) the Castle will be available on most Mondays, dependent on tides. Castle is normally closed to the public on a Monday (except Bank Holidays) for cleaning and maintenance.
- As it is not possible to have a wedding ceremony at the same time as being open to the public, it may also be available for a ceremony at 10.00 only on a day when the Castle is opening at 12.00 to the public, dependent on tides.
- No ceremonies are possible on days on which the Castle is open 10.00 to 15.00.
- Outside the normal season dates, the time of the ceremony is dictated by the causeway safe crossing/registrar availability times.
- Please contact the Castle for further guidance and assistance.
Receptions
Unfortunately, Lindisfarne Castle is not able to offer facilities for receptions. However, there are a number of hotels on the island and in the immediate area who offer this service.
