    Weddings at Lindisfarne Castle

Lindisfarne is an atmospheric and romantic fairytale castle dramatically perched high on a rocky island crag.

This Elizabethan fort, later converted into a beautiful Edwardian home by Sir Edwin Lutyens, is an alluring place and overlooks the charming village of Holy Island - a unique tidal island which is cut off from the mainland twice a day.

The barrel vaulted drawing room known as the ‘Ship Room’ because of the wooden model of a Dutch sailing ship suspended from the ceiling, is where most couples choose to hold their marriage or civil partnership ceremony.

    The Entrance Hall

The Entrance Hall's sturdy columns and rounded arches recall in miniature the great Norman nave of Durham Cathedral. This room is usually used for the guests to enjoy a glass of champagne after the ceremony.

    Upper Gallery

This beautiful long, narrow room is the highest point of the castle. It has a platform at one end and a bow window at the other overlooking the village and the mainland beyond.

When can civil wedding ceremonies be held at Lindisfarne Castle?

All the rooms are available on Mondays when the castle is closed to the public and when there is access to Holy Island across the tidal causeway.

For ceremonies between mid-March and the end of October we are limited to one wedding per day at 10am when the causeway is safe to cross. On Mondays, the castle is closed to the public and ceremonies can take place between 10am and 3pm. For ceremonies outside the property's normal open season please contact us for availability and timing.

    Receptions

Unfortunately Lindisfarne Castle does not cater for wedding receptions.
