The river path through Lydford Gorge is currently closed due to several potentially unstable rock faces. The main features of the gorge, the White Lady waterfall, Devils Cauldron and Tuckers Pool are all still accessible.
Other paths in the gorge have been made two-way to allow visitors to see the iconic features of the gorge and still provide a good 3-mile walk. There is a reduced entry charge for non-members.
Over the winter rock face inspections are carried out to check that rock faces in the gorge are safe and stable. Unfortunately the report from this year’s inspections have highlighted that a number of fissures or cracks have developed in three of our rock faces. Depending on the severity of these cracks the rock faces could be unstable with the possibility of rock falls and landslips on to the river path below. Therefore the path has been closed until remedial work can be undertaken. We anticipate this will take between 3 to 6 weeks as from the 7 April 2008.
We would like to apologise for an inconvenience caused and disappointment at not being able to walk along by the river.
