    Things to do
    Events  Events
Discover more about the wildlife at Malham Tarn and the work we do to care for it on guided walks throughout the year or at our summer Farm Day.

    Family highlights  Family highlights
Easter trails and our summer Farm Day are family favourites, but Malham Tarn is great for kids at all times of the year.

Learn to recognise bird songs at Town Head Barn's interactive exhibition and see if you can spot them from the wildlife viewing hide on the north side of Malham Tarn.

    Walking  Walking
As well as the Pennine Way, which crosses Malham Moor via Malham Tarn, there are a variety of local paths to explore. The Tarn and Janet's Foss Waterfall can be visited alongside Malham Cove on a picturesque circular walk from Malham village.

A boardwalk gives easy access to Tarn Moss Nature Reserve (obtain a permit from the National Trust estate office).

National Trust walks leaflets are available from Town Head Barn and the National Park Centre in Malham or contact us in advance of your visit to have them posted to you.

    Cycling  Cycling
There are an extensive network of bridleways to explore around Malham Tarn and up on the surrounding moorland. It's a great place for both off-road mountain-biking and less strenuous, family-friendly cycling.

    Fishing  Fishing
Trout fishing by boat (not the shoreline)takes place on Malham Tarn between 1 May and 30 September. A permit is required and can be booked through the Field Studies Centre at Tarn House.

    Geocaching  Geocaching
We've worked with the Yorkshire Dales National Park to set up a geology geocache trail around Malham Cove. Find out more and hire GPS equipment at the National Park visitor centre in Malham village or log-in to Geocaching.com.

    Horse riding  Horse riding
A network of bridleways allows good access to the area for horses. Riders can now take advantage of the newly launched Settle Loop of the Pennine Bridleway, a 10 mile trail from Settle across Langcliffe Scar and Grizedales.

    Get involved  Get involved
Help conserve the Malham Tarn estate, learn new skills and gain new friends by coming along on a working holiday or joining our team of local volunteers.

Get involved with various aspects of countryside management, assisting our wardens with boardwalk maintenance, vegetation and pond clearance, and general estate work.
