About this property
Thomas Hardy designed the house and lived there for 43 years, from 1885 until his death in 1928. Here he wrote Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Jude the Obscure and The Mayor of Casterbridge, as well as much of his poetry. Visitors can see several pieces of his furniture.
