Staircase Landing: a stained glass window depicting Queen Elizabeth I. The Queen was entertained at Melford Hall in 1578. She is depicted here wearing the blue dress she wore to the service which was held in St Paul’s Cathedral in November 1588 to give thanks for the defeat of the Spanish Armada.

The Stairs: One of a pair of Chinese Qianlong period covered vases, c1755, decorated in iron red, sepia and gold with peacocks. The vase was booty recovered from the Spanish treasure ship, Santissima Trinidad.

The Chapel: a mid-18th century Philippino ivory figure of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. She stands on a crescent moon with her foot on a serpent’s head, symbolising her triumph over evil. She originally had a gold and diamond-studded halo, gold an ruby earrings, and a gold and emerald ring.
