The Top Hall was designed by Robert Adam as the main entrance to Nostell, approached by two grand flights of steps from the outside.
It is currently furnished as intended in the 18th century, with the eight Chippendale hall chairs and two Adam designed marble pier tables arranged around the edge of the room.
However, the arrangement of the Top Hall has varied greatly over the years. In the 19th century it was furnished as a music room, with a large organ at the north end.
The organ was later removed to the local church. In the early 20th century, it was used as a sitting room by the 2nd Baron St Oswald.
