Three things make the garden at Nymans special: the beautiful, theatrical design, a superlative plant collection, gathered from around the world, and our elevated position which offers wonderful views over Sussex.
We have great variety here: you’ll find Rose, Rock and Heather gardens, an Arboretum and double Summer Border filled with annuals. We have giant champion trees, playful topiary and delicate winter bulbs. You can see plants from as far away as China and Chile growing as they would in the wild.
Walks in the Garden
Spring

The bulb meadows in the Wall Garden are full of Narcissus and Fritillary and our grassy banks are covered in Crocus. Our world famous collection of Camellias, Rhododendrons and Magnolias reliably produce extraordinary displays of colour.
Summer

The exuberant June borders provide fresh and dynamic early summer displays using unusual perennial plants. Our famous double Summer Borders provide colour for July, August and September with their unique style of annual planting. Look out for our Eucryphias, dazzling shrubs from South America and Tasmania that produce big, starry white flowers in August.
Autumn

Our late summer bedding, including Salvia, Pelargonium and Fuchsia often flowers into October. This combines well with a rich variety of autumn tree colour: rich yellows from our hickories, fiery oranges and reds from Nyssas and Acers and purples from Liquidambers.
Winter

Crunch along the gravel of our winter walk and take the rich scents of Daphne and Sarcoccoca and marvel at how the winter stems of Cornus and Rubus seem to glow on the dullest winter day. The bulb meadow in the Wall Garden is full of snowdrops and early Narcissus and there are rare hellebores all around the garden.
Green Gardening
We try to reduce the environmental impact of everything we do in the garden. We replace fungicides with beneficial microbes, turn our garden waste into hot compost, collect rainwater to give to the plants and run our mower using solar panels. Our Compost Zone is a great source of information about green gardening.
