We employ about 50 staff at Nymans in a variety of roles. We have permanent and seasonal, full time and part time roles. Most of our roles are advertised on the National Trust jobs website. Others are advertised at the property and in the local area. For further information, please, contact us.

If you have some time to spare why not work at Nymans as a volunteer? There are lots of benefits to volunteering with us and we have a variety of roles to choose from.

What’s in it for me?
Volunteers are the backbone of the National Trust and only through their help can we care for Nymans and open it to visitors. As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to:

- learn more about Nymans and our work
- develop new skills
- start a new career
- make friends and enjoy our social events
- get a National Trust Volunteer Card (once you have completed 50 hours of volunteering) The card is valid for one year and entitles you to free entry to other Trust properties and a 20 percent discount in National Trust shops and catering outlets.

- have free refreshments when on duty
- receive Trust volunteer magazine.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who are:
- Enthusiastic
- Interested in the work of the National Trust
- Have time to get involved – a regular commitment is best for us but some roles are more flexible
No special knowledge of Nymans or The National Trust is needed.
Current opportunities
- Event & learning assistants help with our varied programme including activities for families and shools, art activities, open air theatre, lunch lectures etc.
- Gardeners help with most of the tasks in the garden from planting, weeding, mulching, trimming hedges and cutting lawns. [Volunteers must be interested in a career in horticulture]
- Garden Stewards help look after the garden and help visitors enjoy the garden by being a ‘presence’.
- Guided walk leaders help visitors enjoy their visit and learn about Nymans by leading guided tours of the garden, woods or other aspects of the property.
- Mobility buggy drivers help less mobile visitors get about and enjoy the property by driving our mobility buggy and giving a guided tour. [Volunteers must have a clean driving licence]
- Office assistants help in our two offices by answering enquiries from the public, photocopying, arranging mail -outs etc.
- Plant Centre assistants help generate income for Nymans in our Plant Centre by dealing with deliveries, growing plants, talking to customers, helping customers choose plants, tidying and stocking displays.
- Raffle sellers help generate money for special projects by selling raffle tickets to visitors at the property.
- Room Stewards help visitors enjoy their visit to the House by welcoming them and offering information. They also help protect the house and its collection by providing a watchful presence at all times.
- Shop Assistants help generate income for Nymans in the shop by dealing with deliveries, talking to customers, serving at the till, packing, tidying and stocking displays.
- Visitor Reception assistants help in Visitor Reception and in our Visitor kiosk to meet and greet visitors, give information about what’s on, promote our learning trails, tracker packs for families etc, help visitors with special needs e.g. by loaning our free wheelchairs.
- Woods Wardens help by working with our Woods Warden on conservation tasks and maintaining public access (paths, signs, steps etc). Volunteers also help with guided walks.
