Interested in becoming one of our team of dedicated Volunteer Wardens?
Volunteer Wardens provide an important link between the staff wardens and public visitors to Orford Ness NNR. Their primary role is to provide excellent customer care and help enhance the 'visitor experience'. This is achieved by being available for people to speak to; perhaps to reminisce about past times spent on the 'island' or to enquire about a particular interest or possibly to identify a plant or bird seen. They also provide an important role in ensuring that visitors have a safe and enjoyable visit.
Our wardens are mainly local people who give their enthusiasm, experience and time; this may be one day a week or one day a month. The work is varied; from meeting the ferry and welcoming visitors to patrolling the visitor trails and information buildings (bicycle provided!).
The only qualifications required are an interest in the site, a willingness to meet and assist our visitors and an ability to learn new skills. The National Trust can also provide reasonable expenses and certificated courses where required, such as First Aid.
