The Wey & Godalming Navigations The Wey Navigations extend for 20 miles from the Thames at Weybridge, through Guildford and onto Godalming. For most of their length these historic waterways run through beautiful, tranquil Surrey countryside. Each stretch of the waterway has a different character and there is always something of interest to see.
Walk along the towpath The towpath provides a superb walk through some of the most beautiful countryside in Surrey. It is 20 miles of flat, easy walking from Godalming to Weybridge, although the path can sometimes be muddy. The Trust has published a book of circular walks around the Navigations, copies of which are available from the Navigations Office at Dapdune Wharf and Thames Lock in Weybridge. The start of several of the walks can be reached by public transport and most include a pub or tea shop on the route. It is possible to cycle the full length of the towpath but priority should be given to walkers.
Wildlife A good stretch of the waterway for wildlife is between Walsham Gates and Papercourt where the Navigation follows the natural river and from St Catherine's upstream to Godalming, where the Navigation passes through several Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Dapdune Wharf Dapdune Wharf is based on the River Wey at Guildford and houses a restored barge, an interactive exhibition, a hands-on discovery room and small shop/tea-room.
Through exhibitions, models and displays visitors will be able to discover the history of the waterway, see how bargemen and their families lived and find out about the work of making and maintaining the Navigations.
