Set amid pleasant countryside, this modest red-brick building houses an unexpected treasure – an outstanding series of wall paintings by Stanley Spencer. Inspired by his experiences during the First World War, and influenced by Giotto's Arena Chapel in Padua, the remarkable paintings are peppered with highly personal and unexpected detail. The work, which took six years to complete, is one of Spencer's finest achievements.
