    Home Farm visitor centre

    Home Farm visitor centre

    About the centre
The Home Farm was built in 1885 to provide new farm buildings for Speke Hall’s own land. It was designed as a ‘model farm’ – a complete farmstead planned and built as a single unit – and continued in use as a working farm until the 1940’s.

Originally it included cowsheds, stabling, pig sties, a cart shed, granary bins and a smithy.

In 2001 the Home Farm building were transformed into the Visitor Centre you see today.

    Children’s Play Area
Our children’s play area is very popular with our younger visitors and is suitable for children between the ages of 4 and 13. Seating is available for parents.

We ask that children are supervised at all times by a responsible adult whilst using the play area.

    Picnics
We have picnic tables available for you to use in the area adjacent to our Children’s Play Area at the Home Farm Visitor Centre. In poor weather, shelter is available at the Cart Shed next door to the visitor reception.

A range of snacks and sandwiches is available from the restaurant should you wish to create a picnic, alternatively you are welcome to bring you own food from home.

We ask our visitors not to picnic in the formal gardens.

    Car parking
Car parking at Speke Hall is found at our Home Farm Visitor Centre.  You will be directed to the car park by a member of staff when you arrive at the property.

Please note that cars are parked at their owners risk and the National Trust can take no responsibility for damage or theft of vehicles or their contents whilst parked on our land.

    Cycling
As part of our commitment to the environment, we welcome cyclists at Speke Hall.

Cycle parking is available at the car park with easy access to the Home Farm visitor centre.

Cycle locks are available for hire from reception for £1.00. Please telephone in advance to check availability.

Those arriving at Speke Hall on bike, on foot or by public transport qualify for discounted entry. Please ask at reception upon arrival for details.

    Dogs
Speke Hall welcomes dogs in Stockton’s Wood and on the circular estate walk.  We must, however, insist that all dogs are kept on a lead and under control at all times.

Please clear up after your dog. Bags for the disposal of waste are available from the Visitor Reception at the Home Farm visitor centre.

Dogs are not permitted in the Hall, children’s play area, restaurant, shop, toilets or formal gardens, with the exception of guide dogs and hearing dogs.

    Recycling
The National Trust is committed to sound ecological practice and the development of environmental sustainability.

In recognition of our work, Speke Hall was recently awarded a ‘Silver’ in the pilot of the Green Business Awards.

You can help support the environment by making use of our recycling facilities during your visit. A recycling bin for aluminium cans is available in the restaurant at Home Farm.

For more information on the Green Business Scheme visit www.green-business.co.uk.
