Spring

In spring the grasslands are carpeted with colour by snowdrops in February and daffodils through until April.
Bluebells complete the vibrant woodland floor in April and May.
Beech trees burst into leaf around this time, followed by the other deciduous trees, until the winter skyline and tree-top canopy is transformed into a palette of vibrant, fresh greens in time for summer.

In late spring and early summer, the magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons come into flower, filling the garden with colour and scent.
By August, the garden is at its ‘greenest’; the differing shades accentuating the vistas and instilling a sense of life all around.

Towards the end of August, the North American maple begins to turn a scarlet red, heralding Stourhead’s splendid autumnal display.
Trees from around the globe contribute to this wonderful sight, drawing people from all over the world to see Stourhead garden at its most magnificent.
Winter

Even in the dark January months, the ground is sprinkled with delicate snowdrops. Flowering rhododendrons add welcome splashes of colour.
During winter, the falling leaves reveal the contours of the landscape, and its design can be understood more clearly.
And our unique collection of conifers, evergreen against their withering deciduous neighbours, can be seen at their best.
