Stowe is a breathtakingly beautiful creation of the 18th century, an idealised version of nature and one of the first and foremost of the great English landscape gardens. Hidden amongst spectacular views and vast open spaces there are over 40 monuments, each with its own special significance. With the changing seasons and a continuing restoration programme, Stowe offers a range of experiences and opportunities for individuals and groups to visit throughout the year.
Visitors to the gardens should allow plenty of time because of the extensive areas. Stowe House is used by Stowe School and opened to the public by Stowe House Preservation Trust. Tel. 01280 818166 for details or see shpt.org.uk for opening times
