Sutton Hoo is an internationally known site, overlooking the River Deben near Woodbridge in Suffolk. In 1939, through the patronage of Mrs Edith Pretty, local archaeologist Basil Brown found a 27m long Anglo-Saxon ship burial, thought to be of Raedwald, King of East Anglia. Buried within the ship was a collection of fabulous treasures that had lain undisturbed within the ship for over 1,300 years.
Sutton Hoo lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers opportunities for environmental activities. Please discuss this with the learning office on 01394 389727.
