The
family bedrooms fill the first floor of the east wing. Very modern
for the 1930s is the fact that much of the furniture was built-in, and that
there were many bathrooms and WCs. When The Homewood was completed,
there were five bedrooms, plus the master bedroom suite; but Gwynne reduced
these to four in the 1950s, as he had originally intended. The bedroom which
disappeared had been created for his grandmother, his mother’s mother,
who occupied it for a time when the whole family lived together.
The two sliding doors of the fitted wardrobe reveal, on one side, space for hanging
clothes and tray storage, and on the other, an inset dressing table with plate
glass and vanity mirrors, wash-basin and top light.
