The total amount required to take the project from the acquisition of the buildings through to opening to the public was £4.5m. In July 1999, the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded £2.25m to the National Trust towards the project. The National Trust has met the balance through fundraising including private charitable donations and private trust donations. The National Trust is also grateful to the support of Waste Recycling Environment (WREN), using landfill tax credits generated by the Waste Recycling Group and to Norwich Union.
