    A view down Kirkstone Pass into Ullswater

    In the north-east corner of the Lake District National Park, around Ullswater Lake and 7 miles south of Penrith

    Beautiful lake winding through a glaciated valley with impressive mountain scenery and a waterfall that inspired many of Wordsworth's great works
     
    • Visit the spectacular tumbling Aira Force waterfall with beautiful surrounding walks
    • Ullswater shore is home to the daffodils that inspired Wordsworth
    • Brotherswater Lake has an excellent circular walk
    • Lakeshore access at many points alongside the A592 between Waterfoot and Patterdale
    • Footpaths up onto the Roman road at High Street
    Aira Force Waterfalls
    Aira Force waterfall
    The most famous of the Lake District waterfalls, Aira Force drops an impressive 65 feet and is surrounded by pretty woodland. A short distance from the car park, this moderate 2 hour walk can be extended to High Force beyond or Gowbarrow fell. Look out for the famous red squirrel! NY402202

    Wordsworth daffodils
    Wander on over to see the famous Wordsworth daffodils, which you can find on the lakeshore at Wordsworth Point near Glencoyne Bay. It was here that the poet was thought to have taken inspiration for the well-known poem 'Daffodils'. NY388192

    Brotherswater
    View from east of Kirkstone Path of shattered rocks below Caudale Head (NT). Foreground is Caudale Moor (NT) and in middle distance is Brother's Water. Beyond that is the lower arm of Ullswater.
    Enjoy a gentle 2 mile stroll around Brotherswater, taking in magnificent oak woodland, the tidy farmed landscape and peaceful waterscapes. Parking is available at the small car park at Cowbridge. NY403134
    Hartsop Village
    This historic, pretty hamlet is a designated conservation area that acts as an ideal starting point for walks, following the network of paths along the valley floor and up onto the higher mountain tops, where you can spot red squirrels, badgers and many different breeds of birds.
