    Family highlights  Family highlights
    Aira Force waterfall is an exciting but safe family walk that can comfortably be completed within 2 hours. Ullswater Steamers offer rides on the lake and Brotherswater has great, scenic family walks.
     
    Walking  Walking
    There are a variety of walks within the Ullswater Valley, from low-level gentle strolls to mountain hikes that will suit the more energetic ramblers!

    The Coast to Coast long distance footpath crosses the property and cuts across the country running from St. Bees in the north-west to Robin Hood's Bay in the north-east.

    The Cumbrian Way passes within 4 miles, with footpaths which link to Ullswater.
     
    Cycling  Cycling
    Bicycles can be hired in Glenridding at St Patricks Bay or Park Foot Campsite. There are many road and off-road routes available, but please note that the main road can be busy at times. A cycle up the Kirkstone Pass to the summit offers a challenging route! Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 71 passes within 2 miles, with linking on-road routes.

    Ullswater Lake is a great canoeing and kayaking spot, for more details go to Glenridding Sailing Centre.
     
    Diving and snorkelling  Diving and snorkelling
    There are brilliant opportunities for diving at Ullswater, with a famous wreck dive and also plenty of easy spots for beginners. For more information please contact the Derwent Divers.
     
    Fishing  Fishing
    Good fishing is available on Ullswater and Brotherswater; download our fishing leaflet.

    The Environment Agency can advise you where to buy permits.
     
    Geocaching  Geocaching
    There are a number of caches throughout the valley. For more information please go to The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site and before adding any further geocaches please contact us.
     
    Golf  Golf
    The nearest golf courses are at Penrith and Keswick or Windermere.
     
    Horse riding  Horse riding
    Available locally at Rookin House equestrian and activity centre, Park Foot Trekking Centre and Sockbridge Pony Trekking Centre, telephone 017688 63468.
     
    Outdoor activity centre  Outdoor activity centre
    Several operate within the valley, Ullswater Outward Bound Centre and Patterdale Hall being the main two.
     
    Climbing  Rock climbing
    There are some great sites throughout the valley, for more information please visit the British Mountaineering Council.
     
    Sailing and boating  Sailing and boating
    Ullswater offers very good sailing. Hire of dingies and rowing boats is available from a number of operators based in Glenridding. Please note that the lake is deep and very cold in places.
     
    Swimming  Swimming
    Access to the lake is available at Jenkins Field and the shoreline at Glencoyne Bay. Please note that the water is cold and deep with strong undercurrents.
     
    Other activities  Other recreational activities
    Rookin House Equestrian and Activity Centre (non-NT) offers many recreational activities.

    In the right conditions you can ski and snowboard at Raise on the Helvellyn massif; it has a long walk in and requires membership. For more information please go to The Lake District Ski Club.
