A tranquil stretch of the Dales Way follows the River Wharfe as it tumbles east through Langstrothdale, from Beckermonds towards Yockenthwaite, Hubberholme and Buckden, before heading south into the U-shaped valley of Upper Wharfedale, to Starbotton and Kettlewell. Look out for kingfisher, oystercatcher, dipper and sand martin beside its clean waters.

    Yockenthwaite
The area around the village of Yockenthwaite in Langstrothdale is a favourite spot for artists and photographers. Visit the stone circle (SD900779), believed to be of Bronze Age origin, located on the riverbank, next to the Dales Way. SD905790

    Buckden Pike
Snow on Buckden Pike, Upper Wharfedale
An energetic walk to the top of Buckden Pike will reward walkers with fabulous 360 degree panoramic views of the Dales. Visit the Polish aircrew war memorial at the south end of the ridge where a Wellington bomber crashed in bad weather in 1942, killing 5 men. The only survivor followed fox tracks in the snow down to the village of Cray, and later organised the building of a monument. SD961788
    Cray and Hubberholme
The path between these two hamlets offers stunning views down the length of Wharfedale and can be incorporated into a popular circular walk from Buckden. Explore the church at Hubberholme, well known for its hand-carved oak pews which bear the famous mouse trademark of Robert Thompson, the 'Mouseman of Kilburn'. SD932787
