    Group visits
A vast and varied garden with plants from around the world, Wakehurst Place is internationally renowned for its combination of formal botanic gardens, extensive tree collections and its vital plant conservation work. Enjoy wonderful views across the woodland and lakes, and explore the wider estate with walks through the Loder Valley nature reserve, wetlands conservation area and sweeping woodland valleys. Wakehurst Place is a globally important site for plant conservation and research, with over a billion seeds collected so far for future preservation. Visit the Millennium Seed Bank to see this project in action at the laboratory viewing area and interactive, touch-screen exhibition. There is a varied events calendar throughout the year and a formal learning programme for schools and education groups with an engaging Learning Centre in the House.

Wakehurst Place is funded, administered and maintained by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The Millennium Seed Bank project aims to collect seeds from 10% of the world's flora by 2009 to save species from extinction in the wild. Enjoy the Millennium Seed Bank interactive public exhibition in the Orange Room and follow the journey of a seed from identification and collection, to drying and cold storage in the massive underground vaults. The mansion in the grounds is used principally for educational visits. Two rooms only are open to visitors
