Environmental educator Gordon MacLellan, otherwise known as Creeping Toad visited Wallington in July to work with the children of Cambo First School for the Carbon Footprint Project.
Over two days, the children got creative and were inspired to think about all that was special about their surroundings and whatkind of footprints we leave on the planet, followed by what we can do to reduce our impact on the earth. This culminated in them creating a giant willow carbon footprint globe.
The children came up with five themes of waste, pollution at sea and on land, energy, food and transport. Each willow hoop of the globe has been decorated with stories of change, showing how one action leads to another and how one improvement can affect the lives of the people, plants and animals around us.
The carbon footprint globe will be on display in the Courtyard at the ‘Go Green with Wallington’ event on Saturday 13 September, 10am-4pm.
On the day there will be various exhibitors providing visitors with advice and information about all things green from basic energy saving tips at home to installing your own solar panel. There’s lots for the kids to do too as Gordon will be returning with some crafty carbon footprint activities. We also have an environmental magician and you can learn how to play junk music!
