About this property In Wasdale the Trust owns England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike (978m), and deepest lake, Wastwater, which has impressive scree slopes. The six valley farms are also owned by the Trust, as are the surrounding mountains including Great Gable and the famous historic wall patterns at the valley head. Lower down the valley is the wooded and tranquil 600-hectare (1,482-acre) Nether Wasdale Estate with six farms. Over 5,000 hectares (12,300 acres) and eleven farms are protected in neighbouring Eskdale, with extensive areas of fell, six farms and Hardknott Roman Fort. In the beautiful and quiet Duddon Valley the Trust cares for 3,300 hectares (8,000 acres) and nine farms.
