    Study suggestions and teaching materials

    Introduction
The suggestions below relate to the National Curriculum and the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education in Luton and Bedfordshire, as follows. Click underlined words for further information. For source-materials on these and other topics please contact the adviser.

At key stage 1, the Tree Cathedral is a 'site of spiritual interest' suitable for visits in connection with the Special Places topic in RE, and for the description of sights and sounds in English.

At key stage 2, the Tree Cathedral is suitable for the Natural World and Symbols topics in RE, and the Identification of plants and animals topic in the Life and Living Processes section of Science; and in English for creative writing.

At key stage 3, the Tree Cathedral is suitable for the study of habitat, food chains, fungi, and the impact of alien species in the adaptation and competition, and the Feeding Relationships topics in the Life and Living Processes section of Science; and (as part of the Whipsnade area) for the study of changing characteristics of settlements in Geography.

At both stages 3 and 4, a visit to the Tree Cathedral and Dunstable Downs can contribute to the reading of English as a background relevant to the treatment of nature in poetry both before and after 1914.

At key stage 4, the Tree Cathedral is also suitable for studies of distribution of species in the Life and Living Processes section of Science, and of soil structure in Geography. It is relevant to the study of the 1914-1918 World War in History and AS level English.

A visit to Whipsnade Tree Cathedral is likely to include mention of its origin and purpose, and these are described in the History page and the Statement of Significance.

    Local amenities:
Toilets and, usually, wet-weather accommodation, can be arranged at the nearby Whipsnade Village Hall. Apply via the Trustees Contact us.
