About this property The ornate stepped gables of the dovecote tower above nesting boxes for an incredible 1,500 pigeons. Completed in the early 1540s by the Earl of Gostwick, the dovecote and stables are all that remains of a majestic Tudor complex of farm buildings, built with stones taken from local priories during the dissolution of the monasteries. There is a graffiti signature alleged to be that of Pilgrims' Progress author, John Bunyan, above the stables fireplace.
