Visitors with disabilities
Details of access and facilities for disabled visitors are given in each property
entry in the 'Visits' section of this website. A 'Links Pass' (which allows half-price
admission to allow easier access for groups of elderly and disabled visitors) is available to groups
affiliated to local government or disability charities only. Please email enquiries@thenationaltrust.org.uk
or call 0844 800 1895.
Children and school visits
Groups of children aged 5-17 are admitted at half the adult group rate unless otherwise
stated. For more information on school visits, see the 'Schools & teachers'
section in our 'Learning & discovery' pages or email enquiries@thenationaltrust.org.uk
or call 0844 800 1895.
Photography
The National Trust welcomes amateur photography out-of-doors at its properties.
We regret that such photography is not permitted indoors when houses are open to visitors. However,
at most properties special arrangements can be made for interested amateurs to take interior photographs
by appointment outside normal opening hours. Please contact individual properties for details.
Footwear
Any heel which covers an area smaller than a postage stamp can cause irreparable
damage to floors, carpets, etc, therefore sharp-heeled shoes are not permitted. Where necessary plastic
slippers are provided for visitors with unsuitable footwear or slippers are available for purchase.
Ridged soles can trap grit and gravel, which scratch fine floors. For this purpose
bootscrapers and brushes are provided for visitors' use. Appropriate footwear should also be used in
gardens.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted inside our houses, restaurants or shops. Smokers are also
invited to exercise restraint in gardens since the scent of flowers is such an important part of visitors'
enjoyment of a garden.
Large bags
At some properties visitors will be asked to leave large bags at the entrance desk
while they make their visit. This is to protect furniture and contents from accidental damage and to
improve security.
Registered tour guides
Registered tour guides are given free admission to properties on presentation of
a valid badge.
Coach drivers
Coach drivers are given free admission to properties.
