Step back in time at one of Lancashire's finest 16th-century Tudor buildings, where a young Will Shakespeare once performed. His stage, the Great Hall, is as spectacular today as when the Bard was performing for the owner, Sir Thomas Hesketh, and his raucous guests. Wander around the house and marvel over the fine collections of furniture, arms, armour and tapestries. Then step outside and enjoy the gardens, topiary and sculpture and a walk in the woodlands, alongside the canal. Complete your visit with some delicious, freshly prepared local food in the cosy tea-room
- Stand behind the giant screen, where Shakespeare made costume changes.
- Imagine the feasts that took place in the Great Hall.
- Live the life of the 19th-century Hesketh family.
Circular walks, guided tours and family events programme. Dogs on leads in grounds only, not formal gardens
