Heritage Rose Foundation June Conference

This summer Mottisfont will be hosting a Rose conference for the Heritage Rose Foundation with the theme of following in the footsteps of Graham Stuart Thomas. The three day conference promises to be fun and interesting with some fantastic garden tours and talks from a whole host of experts.

  • Monday 23 June Series of fascinating talks and lectures from David Stone – Mottisfont Head Gardener, Maurizio Usai – Italian Garden Designer, John Woods – Hinton Ampner Head Gardener, Stephen Scanniello – President of Heritage Rose Foundation and Jonny Bass – Mottisfont. Lunch will be included and there will also be a silent auction of rare books, prints and other garden gems.
  • Tuesday 24 June There will be VIP tours of Mottisfont.  There are four different tours and workshops on offer and the day has been organised so that you will have the chance to see and do them all (see below for details).  Lunch and a traditional cream tea will be provided.
  • Wednesday 25 June Garden Tours. The day starts with a trip to Hinton Ampner with a tour of the garden led by Head Gardener, John Wood. After coffee, we will leave Hinton Ampner at 12.00 and head off to Loseley Park where we will have a light lunch. After lunch there will be a short talk about the work of Plant Heritage given by Mercy Morris who is Plant Conservation Officer for Plant Heritage. The remainder of the afternoon will be spent exploring the delightful gardens at Loseley. Once again there will be morning coffee and biscuits at Hinton Ampner with lunch and tea being provided at Loseley.

    An intimate look at the grounds of Mottisfont Abbey, with an emphasis on: the History of Mottisfont; using roses in the landscape; discovering what makes Mottisfont the place it is today.

    Climbers, Ramblers and Mottisfont Rarities

    An in-depth tour of the famous walled gardens; special attention will be paid to the rarest roses in these gardens and the techniques employed by the gardeners to cover the walls, arches, pergolas, and trees with glorious climbing and rambling roses.

    A Head Gardeners View: Head Gardener David Stone will share with you what it takes to make Mottisfont one of the most beautiful rose collections in the world. David will cover seasonal care and management of the garden with an emphasis on specialized pruning techniques that he has perfected during his tenure as Head Gardener of Mottisfont.
