Mount Stewart commended for use of digital media
At the end of May we were delighted to be chosen as one of the finalists of this year’s Northern Ireland Tourism Awards which was held in the Ulster Hall in Belfast.
Due to our online coverage and engagement with our visitors during last year’s Festival of Light, we were chosen as a finalist in the category of ‘Best use of digital/social media’. While we didn’t win the category on the night, we are delighted to have been commended.
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Arlene Foster congratulated 34 of Northern Ireland’s finest tourism enterprises, events and initiatives on scooping awards at a glittering gala ceremony at Belfast’s Ulster Hall.
The Northern Ireland Tourism Awards, now in their 36th year, recognise the very best of the local industry and are regarded as the high point of the annual tourism calendar.
Congratulating all of the award winners, Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said: ‘During the past year, many tourism destinations have looked on with envy at what Northern Ireland has achieved and the profile that we are building.
‘These events have really strengthened our position and confidence in the industry is high. I am pleased that these awards are now throwing the spotlight on the people and the businesses in the sector that have helped to build that confidence.’
NITB Chairman Howard Hastings said: ‘Clearly our industry has been going through a transformational period, one which has seen a seismic shift in how our destination is perceived around the globe, and indeed how we see it ourselves.
‘Over the past few years Northern Ireland has achieved a massive amount and tonight is about celebrating the best practice, the innovation and the creativity that has helped put us there.’
Jorge Lopes, Country Director of Diageo Northern Ireland said: ‘Diageo is committed to supporting the ongoing the development of a vibrant tourism and hospitality sector by attracting new investment, enhancing the experience of visitors that come to Northern Ireland and building an industry that is an integral part of a thriving and sustainable economy.
‘These Awards celebrate everything that is good about tourism and are a great opportunity to showcase the great work that creative people and organisations are doing to maximise Northern Ireland’s tourism potential. Congratulations to all of the winners you are outstanding ambassadors for our tourism industry.’
We’d also like to offer our congratulations to our fellow National Trust property, Castle Ward for being highly commended in the category of ‘Best visitor experience’.
