We are really busy in the garden at the moment, not only with the summer planting, but we also recently discovered a long-lost path at the bottom of the garden and are replanting this area. We are also renovating the original garden gate at which visitors would have paid sixpence entrance fee in 1937.

In the garden...

Plants being propogated in the greenhouse at Overbeck's

We propagate many of our plants and send material to the plant conservation programme at Knightshayes - the National Trust's specialist propagation unit which propagates rare and threatened plants.

In the winter the blinds are pulled down, furniture is covered with sheets, and delicate objects are stored away. We then begin the annual cleaning of what the conservators call the 'envelope' otherwise known as the walls, floors, windows, and doors. Then throughout the year we will set about conserving individual objects such as the dollhouse settings and the model ships.
