Caring for Polesden Lacey

Polesden Lacey, Surrey

Polesden Lacey, Surrey

On any given day our team could be repairing a roof, caring for an old master painting or surveying wildlife in 1400 acres of countryside. Whatever today’s task, looking after Polesden Lacey is at the core of everything we do.

All our teams work hard to preserve this wonderful place for ever and for everyone to enjoy. Our house team are busy cleaning and monitoring our collections, constantly adding to our knowledge and sharing it on our collections website. Our gardeners and estates teams are out in all weathers tending our historic gardens and maintaining the wider estate. We’re really enthusiastic about our work and love to share it with visitors so don’t hesitate to ask.

We’re also keen to plan for the future so that Polesden Lacey can continue to be enjoyed by the maximum number of people. Our mansion project and garden conservation plan are gradually unlocking the lost elements of Polesden Lacey’s past and bringing them back to life.

Unlocking Polesden

Find out about our project work, what we've done already and what we're hoping to do in the future. From recreations of Edwardian dinners to unlocking more of the mansion house for visitors to see.

In the house

Our house team works to bring polesden's stories to life. At the same time they wage a daily war against dust, damp, light and pests, to preserve our collections for future generations to enjoy.

In the garden

Guided by a conservation management plan our gardeners have begun peeling back the layers in the garden. Opening up views and restoring the exuberance and flamboyance of Polesden's Edwardian gardens.

Out on the estate

Counting the creatures within the square

Our estates team cares for 1400 acres of country side, working to create the perfect balance between conserving sensative environments and getting more people out doors and enjoying nature.
