Tour of the garden

A multi-layered garden

Explore a paradise in Wales. Dating back 300 years, our world-class gardens are steeped in history.

Nowhere else will you experience such a theatrical mix of dramatic terraces, sophisticated flower borders, fantastical topiary and superb views.

Wonderful walks

Rising out of a hill top, the imposing red walls of Powis Castle form a dramatic backdrop to walks around the gardens and grounds.

That’s one of the reasons weather presenter Sian Lloyd selected it as her favourite place to walk.

A riot of summer colour

Powis is unquestionably a garden for all seasons, with something to please the eye right through the year.

During the summer months, be amazed by the vibrant colour in the herbaceous borders and watch the tropical planting on the top terrace get into its stride. Wait for the ranks of delphiniums in the formal garden to give way to towering hollyhocks, and what would an English - or indeed a Welsh - garden be without its roses?

Taste the seasons at Lady Violet's garden tea-room. In 1911 Lady Violet, the fourth Earl's wife, persuaded her husband to allow her to take the garden in hand.

Lady Violet replaced the 'ugly hard common kitchen garden' at the foot of the terraces with the flower garden you see now, bounded by formal yew hedges.
