Our gardens are at their peak during the summer, with unmissable colour, scent and relaxing spaces to take in the view. With vibrant displays and long, refreshing days to look forward to, it’s time to make the most of nature – with a healthy serving of sunshine.
After a steep climb to a bright limestone-red castle overlooking the Severn Valley, you will truly understand why our dramatic garden is world famous, and why it's so fantastic to visit in summer.
Overhanging terraces house an ancient orangery, original statues and an array of rare and tender plants. Weaving your way down through terraces, you can unwind on a hot day, go on a walk through the medieval deer park or get lost in the romantic charm of the woodlands below.
Blooming marvellous herbaceous borders
Gardens operations manager David Swanton says: ‘For me, it is always satisfying to see the garden at Powis looking so good. It’s a joy to see the double herbaceous borders on the orangery terrace in full flower every summer.’
You can expect to see: Delphinium, Paeonia, Roses, Poppies, Iris, Sanguisorba, Calendula and many more. You may also spot wild flowers including common spotted orchids.
All of the tender perennials used in the gardens have been over wintered or propagated from our own on-site glasshouses, which also provide plants from the garden for visitors to buy at our plant sales shop.
