General

  • Limited access to the farm for tea rooms and Donkey wheel (sign posted off South Downs Way). Farm buildings are accessible to the public during open days and to booked groups
  • Take part in treasure hunts and a variety of fun farm games during Saddlescombe Farm open days
  • The South Downs Way runs through Saddlescombe Farm and Newtimber Hill
  • Newtimber Hill is a great spot for a picnic, boasting some spectacular views of the Downs
  • Newtimber Hill has over 2 miles of paths to explore
  • The area is a popular spot with both family cyclists and mountain bikers
  • Lots of open spaces, great for flying kites
  • There is a permanent orienteering course at Devil's Dyke
  • Toilets located at Saddlescombe Farm (open days and booked tour dates only)
  • The Hiker's Rest tea-room (not NT) at Saddlescombe Farm serves light refreshments, including organic teas, homemade cakes, sandwiches, hot snacks and winter soups
  • Light refreshments are also provided on open days and booked tours
  • The Royal Oak in the village of Poynings is about a 10 minute walk at the foot of the Downs
  • Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads where signs indicate livestock are grazing
  • Free parking on Summerdown Road
  • Informal drop-off area for coaches and space for 15 cars opposite Saddlescombe Farm

Access

  • Accessible parking at Saddlescombe Farm is signposted on open days
  • One accessible toilet (available on open days and group tours only)
  • Saddlescombe Farm has rough, uneven tracks but is suitable for most wheelchairs and pushchair
  • Newtimber Hill has steep paths and stiles
  • There are two benches situated on Newtimber Hill, offering superb views across to Devil's Dyke
