Ever keen to reach out into new areas, we are working in a new partnership with Arts Council England to connect more people to our places through contemporary art and craft.
Both organisations believe that placing high-quality and innovative contemporary art within historic settings can inspire artists and audiences and encourage new ways of looking at the work and the world.
Artists will be supported to make work that resonates with its unique surroundings. The families that owned the great houses in our care collected and commissioned high-quality contemporary art of their day – and some still do. We want to continue this legacy. By presenting unforgettable creative responses to our houses, gardens, coastline and countryside, our current supporters can experience our places in new ways, while others will visit for the first time.
The programme runs 2009-12 and includes:
- a programme of temporary visual arts and crafts commissions
- the development of partnerships with artists and arts organisations
- organisational development for the National Trust.
