Crystal clear Wastwater lakeshore

General information

Wasdale, Eskdale and Duddon are a vast area of upland fells, valleys, mountains, rivers and the deepest lake in England - Wastwater. Britain's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, can be climbed from Wasdale Head.

Wasdale is home of 'Britain's favourite view' - looking up Wastwater towards an amphitheatre of mountains.

Visitor facilities - parking

Formal parking and toilet facilities are limited - there is an 'honesty box' car park at Overbeck on the shore of Wastwater, and a pay and display car park at Wasdale Lake Head, the beginning of the route up Scafell Pike.

Informal parking options are available but very limited, including in lay-bys and on Wasdale Village Green.

Visitor facilities - other

There are temporary toilet facilities at Wasdale Head Village Green. From May 2014 toilet facilities will be available at Lake Head Car Park.

We're planning to improve the visitor facilities for the valley as part of the Wasdale Visitor Management Project - watch this space.

Three Peaks visitors must use the 24 hour parking and toilets at Lake Head.
