Houses & buildings

We protect over 300 historic buildings. Our team works hard to ensure they are preserved for ever, for everyone using traditional conservation techniques.

Amazing building projects

With your support, we can carry out amazing work to conserve the houses and buildings in our care. In 2013, the scaffolding came down from Tyntesfield following an 18-month project to restore and repair the roof.

Building design guides

Check out some of the projects we've completed, ranging from new builds to cottage refurbishments to green energy installations. These case studies are captured in our Building Design Guides.

Our first straw bale building

We've built our first ever straw bale building at St Catherine's Woods, near Windermere in the Lake District. Built using 380 straw bales the sustainable building is now being used as a classroom.

Traditional skills

Keen to ensure traditional skills don't die out, we're encouraging our staff to learn and use traditional building skills wherever they can.

Buildings in need of help

  • Powis Castle

The once-grand East Front of this medieval castle needs urgent repairs.

  • Dyrham Park

We need to raise £500,000 towards to the cost of emergency conservation work.

Our biggest conservation project

Conservation on the north facade of Ightham Mote

Conservation on the north facade of Ightham Mote

It's rare for a conservation project to take 15 years. Which is why the work we carried out at Ightham Mote is often called our biggest conservation project to date.
