    Protecting our peatlands

    Peat is important for nature, and for the planet. That's why we're taking part in a national project to protect our precious peatlands.

    Malham Tarn Peat Cliff Project

    When Lord Ribblesdale raised the water level of Malham Tarn in 1791 by a metre to increase the area available for fishing, he unwittingly caused serious damage to the area of raised peat bog on the northern shore of the tarn, which we are now trying to address.

    Our Cave Spiders are rehomed

    As their name suggests Cave Spiders are more usually found in caves, but we have discovered a colony within the Orchid House that we are soon to develop. This means the spiders are currently being rehomed to a more natural location somewhere nearby.
