Indulge yourself in our cosy café
A visit to our new café is the perfect way to round off – or begin – your time at Wordsworth House and Garden.
Choose from a laden bakery table of traditional and seasonal treats, ranging from sticky gingerbread, Borrowdale teabread and Victoria sponge to luscious pies and cakes made with our own heritage apples.
We also have delicious cream teas and gluten-free chocolate and pecan brownies.
If you prefer something savoury, there's homemade soup – with ingredients from our garden – and freshly baked rolls.
Other options include Morecambe Bay potted shrimps or cream cheese with garden herbs, served with oatcakes and edible flowers.
Alternatively, a cheese scone with Snecklifter chutney – inspired by an 18th-century Cumbrian recipe – should hit the spot.
Our pots of tea and cafetiéres of coffee can be enjoyed with cows’ or soya milk, cream or lemon, or you might like to try a glass of refreshing fruit pressé.
Then, relax and simply take in the homely surroundings, or help yourself to some reading material from our bookshelf.
If the sun’s shining, a takeaway tea or coffee with a scone or slice of cake will make a perfect impromptu picnic in the garden – we can even lend you a rug.
The café is open from Saturday to Thursday every week (closed Friday) from 10.30am to 5pm, with last orders at 4.30pm.
You don’t have to visit the house and garden to come in, but we hope you will.
