Here is an assortment of activities we can offer:

    Victorian servants

    Ormesby Hall Educational Day Victorians

Step back in time and become a Victorian servant for the day. Through hands-on costumed activities the children experience life as a Laundry maid, Cook and Housekeeper. Also, under the watchful eye of the Butler, they learn how to lay the table. They will see how the family lived on a tour of the mansion. Once their work is done we have a selection of traditional Victorian toys and games to enjoy.

    Victorian crime mystery

Volunteer dressed up as the butler, ready to welcome visitors to Upton House & Gardens

Who stole the heirloom? The children become the detectives, meeting and questioning the Victorian servants and Mrs Pennyman's house guests, to discover who had a motive and help Mrs Pennyman solve the crime!

    Second World War evacuees

Adult ARP lady warden trains evacuee children in the use of a stirrup pump in the cobbled courtyard

Children get the chance to dress up and spend the day as 1940s evacuees sent to Ormesby Hall during the Second World War. The evacuees experience an air raid under the supervision of the Air Raid Warden and discuss wartime rationing with the Cook. They explore the mansion with the Billeting Officer, then upstairs to where the W.V.S ladies need help to Make Do and Mend. Also there are rumours a spy is in our midst, and we need their help to work out who it is.
