Pete Tasker
Gardener in charge
South Lakes - especially Hill Top

I’m Pete Tasker and I’m the Gardener in Charge for the National Trust’s South Lakes area.

A large part of my job is to look after Beatrix Potter’s garden at Hill Top, but I am also involved in work with volunteers at the walled vegetable garden at Monk Coniston. I also maintain the gardens at any vacant National Trust cottages that are awaiting renovations and new tenants.

I started work for the National Trust in 1988 after a three year Horticulture course at Askham Bryan College near York and a three year stint working at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Over the last twenty-odd years I’ve been responsible for many of the Trust's gardens in the lakes including Stagshaw, Townend, Wordsworth House and High Close.

Gardening in the Lake District can certainly be a challenge but living in such a beautiful part of the country more than makes up for it.
