The Lodes Way from Anglesey Abbey to Wicken Fen
The Lodes Way is a 8 mile cycleway / footpath between Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen which forms part of the National Cycle-way route 11.
The route
Cyclists and walkers share the cycle-way. Expect to meet farm vehicles and other traffic on the road sections.

If you have cycled to Anglesey Abbey from the centre of Cambridge, you may want to take advantage of the restaurant and other facilities before pressing on to Wicken Fen. We hope you will take some time to explore our beautiful gardens and Lord Fairhaven's unique home. To follow the Lode's Way to Wicken Fen, exit the Car Park and turn left towards Lode village.

Turn left on to Lode Road and join National Cycle Route 11. Follow the road as it bends left and right through the village.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 out of Lode village.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route turns sharp right off Fen Road and onto White Fen Droveway.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 along White Fen Droveway - the route twists sharp right and then sharp left before coming to a picnic area on your left. Continue on over a wooden bridge that crosses Swaffhem Bulbeck Lode and then turn left and immediately right and continue on passing Slades Farm on your left.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route turns sharp left onto Whiteway Drove and round to the right on Headlake Drove. Continue on and go straight on at the crossroads. Take care to follow the signs for Route 11.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 as it curves round to the left and then turns sharp right.

Continue straight ahead following National Cycle Route 11 - this part of the route can get muddy - especially in the winter. Cross Reach Lode Bridge.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route passes a picnic area with figures of three fenland characters.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - with fields either side of you. Turn sharp left when you reach Burwell Lode and after a short distance you will come to a footbridge.
Burwell Fen
Short-eared Owls can sometimes be seen along the fen in winter.

Cross the footbridge. Cycle gullies have been fitted to help you carry your bike over. Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11. This section is quite straight. Ride past Priory Farm on your left and carry on over two cattle grids.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route turns sharp left and runs along side a waterway (Monks Lode) with woodland on the other side of the river. Follow cycle route until you come to a bridge over the river on your right.

Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - cross over the low bridge and follow the route around to the right.

Follow signs for the National Cycle Route 11 - you will come to the Wicken Fen Visitor Centre on your left. Treat yourself to some refreshment at our restaurant and take advantage of our other facilities.
