Ashridge becomes a playground in summer

Playing at Ashridge Herts

People have fun here at any time of year but the longer, warmer days of summer give everyone more time to be out and about

Have fun this summer on our lovely estate

We have lots going on during the summer season so don't miss out.

In June there is our summer fun ride which has become an annual event. Horses, and their riders, can come along to meet up with lots of like-minded people and enjoy a ride round the estate. If you like a little extra excitement there will be a couple of small log jumps.

Fifty things

From the middle of July we will have a variety of 50 things activities, including new trails highlighting areas where a sticker can be earned.

Ashridge Adventurers

Children between four and ten years-old can become Ashridge Adventurers during the school holidays with exciting activities and crafts available. You can choose either a Monday or a Wednesday from late July to the end of August.

Fun at Big Camp

In July and August you will be able to join us for our annual Big Camp events. If you haven't been previously, we open our lovely Meadley's Meadow to overnight campers on two summer weekends. We take a maximum of 60 families who are given a numbered pitch on which to erect their tent. It is fun for all the family

The Brownlow cafè will stay open late so that you can buy some of their delicious food or you can bring a camping stove and cook your own but camp fires are not allowed for safety reasons.

Weather permitting, the Monument will be open so that you can watch the sunset from the top. All the details are here.

Bridgewater Monument

The Monument is the centre-piece of the estate in that it is a striking building that everyone local knows. In the summer we try to open it as often as possible so that visitors can climb to the top and admire the views.

On clear days it is possible to see some striking London landmarkds such as the Shard and Canary Wharf - 30 miles away. However, we cannot open it in wet weather as the steps can become slippy and dangerous.

Walkers Paradise

At any time of the year walkers love Ashridge but in summer our walks are particularly popular with butterflies and wild flowers - some of them rare - to be seen if you know where to walk. Have a look at our self-led walks and choose where you will go on a long summer's day.

Picnics

If you just like to relax in beautiful surroundings then Ashridge is the plcae for you. Bring a picnic and find a spot to suit you, then settle down to enjoy yourself.
