Our favourite ways to enjoy the summer sun

A male Broad-bodied Chaser dragonfly at Attingham Park

Our grounds are a fantastic place to come and relax in the summer sunshine. Here are some of our team's top ways to spend a carefree summer day here - whatever day you visit.

Joy: Warden

On a sunny day off I like to go down to the Mile Walk meadow and Deer Park ponds, armed with a pair of binoculars, ID book and my camera, to watch the dragonflies and damselfies. There is always a lot of activity to observe as Emperors fight for territory, emerald damsels flit from stalk to stalk and broad-bodied chasers skim over the lilly pads.

Jess: Sports Coordinator

For me, running around in the sunshine with friends is the best part of the summer – and our play field is a great space for it! We’ve got lots of sports equipment in our play field, but my favourite has to be badminton.

Deborah: Walled Gardener

Working here I get to enjoy all the beautiful flower borders in the Walled Garden. I also love to watch the bees at work in our see-through beehive - it's a fascinating experience for children and adults alike.

Fiona: Events & Marketing Officer

My favourite thing about a summer’s day here is the excuse for an ice-cream or two – you might spot us nipping out of our office to treat ourselves to a lolly from the shop on hot days! The Greedy Pig is a great place to pick one up, as you can enjoy it on a picnic bench in the orchard.

Fallow bucks: our deer

Our herd of fallow deer can’t write for themselves, but, we know that summer is a great way to spot them “chillaxing” and lazing in the sunshine, often close to the main paths. Keep an eye out for males with their new antlers.
