Family fun this Summer in the outdoors at Basildon Park

Children running in the Garden at Basildon Park

As the schools break up and the summer fun begins, Basildon Park is ideal for making the most of the nicer weather (fingers crossed). For families wanting adventures in the outdoors there are 400 acres to explore.

Picnic in the parkland

With different cakes and treats each month in our tea room, this summer is the perfect time to grab a picnic and explore the parkland here at Basildon Park. There are beautiful spots to take a moment for quiet contemplation, and fun areas to build dens with the family. Pick up a picnic and head out to find a favourite spot today. Our National Trust shop has a great selection of rugs.

Wildlife in July

Spring flowers made by our visitors have filled the Visitor Centre with a colourful meadow, and now is the time to add the paper bees, butterflies and caterpillars to make it come alive. Help us finish our garden this July by making bugs and bees in our craft room in the stableyard. Share your images on social media using the hashtag #hanginggardenofbasildon

Hanging Garden of Basildon - craft activity

We are lucky to have so many wonderful types of wildlife and flowers here at Basildon Park; it's the perfect place to learn more about the wonderful green spaces around you. Whilst you're walking out in the gardens and parkland, try to spot a red kite or the many butterflies that flutter past. If you're really lucky you may see the native English orchids that pop up in the parkland to share their pretty flowers with us.

Wildplay in August

Join us for a fun packed month in August. Collect your '50 things to do before you're 11 and ¾' booklet from the Visitor Centre and start ticking off the activities this summer. Bring a kite to fly with the family whilst you picnic on the lawn, build a fantastic den to hide in, or make some wild art in the woods.

The Great Ball Run

The Great Ball Run is back for the summer at Basildon Park. Discover the new runs made by our creative outdoor team by upcycling materials and enjoy hours of fun with the family.

Balls have been an essential part of many Olympics sports and the Great Ball Run has its own challenges. Will you take on the challenge? There are Gold, Silver and Bronze stickers to be won when completing the Ball Runs. Take part on your visit by buying our Great Ball Run kit, valid for the whole summer once bought (£3 from the Visitor Centre).

Dogs

We know that dogs are part of the family so we allow well behaved dogs on leads to join us outside during summer, too (and all year round). We just ask that you please clean up after your dog. There are water bowls for dogs around the property and we even offer complimentary dog biscuits for your pooch in the Old Kitchen.
