A great range of Beatrix Potter gifts and goodies

National Trust corner shop in Hawkshead village

We have a few tempting options for a spot of retail therapy if you fancy a Beatrix Potter souvenir or two while you're here.

In Hawkshead, just round the corner from the Beatrix Potter Gallery, you'll find our very inviting National Trust corner shop.

Inside we've a lovely selection of gifts including a range of specially selected local products and practical things ideal for being out and about in the Lake District.

In the Beatrix Potter Gallery itself you can find a small selection of Beatrix Potter gifts (with more in Hawkshead shop and of course a very big choice in Hill Top shop).

Finally there is our second-hand bookshop next door to the Gallery. Run by volunteers, it helps raise funds for our work here.

Hawkshead is a lovely Lake District village, so we do hope you'll come and enjoy it.

Shop online too

If you don't have room in your suitcase or would like to buy a gift for somebody special, you can now buy Beatrix Potter 'goodies' from us online and have it delivered anywhere in the world..

There is also a lovely range of other National Trust bestsellers, such as biscuits, books, throws and gardening tools.

Remember that all your purchases help us with our conservation work.

Local eats

We don't have a National Trust café or restaurant in Hawkshead but there are many lovely places to choose from for a drink, snack or meal.

You could also try the Tower Bank Arms in Near Sawrey, just a few miles away. The pub is National Trust owned and features in some of Beatrix Potter's best-loved tales, such as The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck. They serve tasty food and offer local beers in their 17th-century bar.

A great reason to shop with us

Did you know that if you purchase anything from our National Trust shops here, you are following in Beatrix Potter's footsteps by supporting the work of the Trust in the Lake District?

Beatrix Potter bought 14 Lake District farms and 4,000 acres of land during her lifetime in order to protect and conserve them for future generations. She left them to the National Trust to look after, following her death in 1943.

Profits made at our shops here go to support our conservation projects at Hill Top, the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the surrounding countryside. So - you can buy that extra special gift or treat direct from us here or via our internet shop and know that, like Beatrix, you're helping conservation here in the Lake District. What better way to remember your visit?

Hill Top Shop

The Hill Top shop is especially dedicated to Beatrix Potter themed gifts. All your favourite characters are there in abundance so do make a visit and see what a lovely selection we have. You will find items here that you cannot get anywhere else.

If you'd like to visit Hill Top shop on a quieter day, come on a Friday when the house is closed.
